Balboa Park Staff Picnic

October 7, 2005: It Was A Beautiful Day for a BBQ!
Friends help co- host picnic for Park & Recreation employees

Ten years ago Balboa Park security was greatly enhanced by the arrival of the R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol). Very soon these great ambassadors realized the constant eyes and ears of Balboa Park were the Park maintenance staff. Because they are ever present, they quickly recognized any unusual activity or circumstance, and a strong liaison was formed between the two groups.

In an effort to acknowledge the staff, R.S.V.P. requested donations from park entities and hosted barbecues for seven consecutive years. Last year in absence of funding, there was no picnic. The Friends of Balboa Park felt this was an ideal collaboration of three wonderful groups and were happy to underwrite the event. So on October 7, 2005, the burgers were flipped, the sodas iced, the ice cream served and each guest received a small tool kit in appreciation for a good job well done! The Friends also thanks Park and Recreation Administration for their superb support.
